Life Story of Sri Harish Chandra Singh


Sri Harishchandra Singh was born in 1895 in a  place which is today in Bangladesh. He passed in 1915 Bachelor of Science and in 1919 M.Sc. in Statistics. In both examinations, he stood first and was awarded with Goldmedals. In year 1916, he was put in Jail by the english Govt., ruling that time in India, for participating in independence movements.

After completion of M.Sc., he joined a job in Bank, and during working in the bank, he took part in 1922 in London's " Institute of Bankers" examination part one. Next year he appeared in second part of the above examination, and stood first among all participated-foreign students and fifth among all participated students. In the same year, he resigned from the banking job, and joined as lecturer for Economics and Commerce in University of Calcutta. In 1927 he received Phd degree for research in banking from University of Calcutta. 

During this period, he was deeply associated with associations like: "Bengal Economics Society", "Indian Economics Association",  "Indian Historical Records Commission". He took the important role in 1932 for establishment of "Indian Statistical Institute". In 1933 he left for London, after getting a scholarship from University of Calcutta for higher research. He got married in 1932, and got one daughter and son.

In 1932 he met first time his spiritual master, Sri Hemchandra Roy, and after this meeting, a remarkable turn took place in his life. He took decision to remained attached with the spirituality and with God for life-long, no matter how busy and responsibleful his life might become! 

Sri Harishchandra has written several books. He was very much influenced from the life of Saint Lorence of France. He translated brief Biography of Saint Lorence, in bengali language. Among his other books , in bengali are:
"Bhagwat Prasanga" - "Talks about Godliness"
"Galpee Bhagwatprasanga" - "Talks about God in Stories"
"Sharanagateer Adarsha o Sadhana" - "A collection of his letter he wrote to his master and to many of his deciples.
